Over the years, my love for the canals deepened. I’ve spent many a holiday aboard narrowboats, cruising through the heart of the UK’s stunning canal network, each journey offering a new adventure and a deeper appreciation for this unique way of life. There’s something truly magical about the slow pace of narrowboat travel, where every bend in the canal reveals another slice of the countryside, untouched and serene.
Now, in my retirement, I’m fortunate to spend even more time on the waterways as a Volunteer Lockkeeper with the Canal and River Trust. It’s a role that allows me to give back to the community and the environment that have given me so much joy over the years. Helping boaters navigate the locks and sharing stories with fellow canal enthusiasts has been incredibly rewarding.
